Students should not underestimate the importance of SAT scores to their college applications. Admissions officers rely on standardized tests because there are no easy ways to compare the relative value of high school GPAs. They are well aware that a 3.0 at a competitive school may be more difficult to achieve than a 4.0 at a failing school, and the practice of "weighted" GPAs for students who take certain types of courses further clouds the issue. Standardized tests such as the SAT help establish a universal benchmark for general academic abilities, and this is why standardized testing remains entrenched in the admission process. Many informed individuals believe that SAT scores are even more important than high school grades, and they support this belief by pointing to lesser degrees of fluctuation in the former than the latter at selective universities. In the final analysis, students who wish to have options for their undergraduate education should focus on rigorous SAT prep that produces their highest possible scores.
High SAT scores reliably increase the chances of acceptance to most universities, and the most selective postsecondary institutions almost always rate standardized testing as either "important" or "very important" (these ratings are taken from the Common Data Set, which is published on university websites). Manhattan Review's SAT prep services have helped thousands of students get accepted to world-class institutions such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Columbia, the University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, Duke, Georgetown, and many more. Job applicants with degrees from prestigious universities are highly competitive. Former Manhattan Review students have been hired by Fortune 500 companies and businesses in Amsterdam, including CVS Health, United Technologies, New York Life Insurance, Honeywell International, Intertrust Group, Ticketscript, Fortuna Entertainment Group, and Mirabeau. Meet an Amsterdam SAT Tutor: Elaine H.
Elaine L., originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in education. She also completed a master of arts in teaching at Boston University, where she began her SAT tutoring career for Manhattan Review in 2010. She was a public school teacher in Massachusetts for five years, and is now on the faculty of an Amsterdam international school.
Elaine's Amsterdam SAT clients benefit from her knowledge of secondary education and her experience as an educator in the United States. "It was really helpful to learn SAT prep from an American teacher," said one of her students. "She was able to anticipate and solve the test prep issues faced by non-American students like me." In her spare time, Elaine enjoys following all of the Boston sports teams, especially the Celtics.
