The TOEFL is almost universally accepted by postsecondary institutions in the English-speaking world as proof of English-language competence. The scores required by a given program, however, vary considerably. Two different departments in the same university may expect vastly different sectional and composite TOEFL scores. At Harvard Divinity School, for example, applicants for most degree programs must receive a total score of at least 100, but prospective master of theology students must achieve a minimum score of 105. International applicants to Harvard's Graduate School of Education, if they are not native English speakers, are expected to score at least 104, with no individual section score lower than 26. The TOEFL standard at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government is 100 for all students, but graduate applicants to degree programs in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures need only produce a total score of 80. Manhattan Review's private TOEFL tutoring begins with analysis of target scores, which then serve as the goal of our TOEFL teaching.
At Manhattan Review, we understand the special challenges faced by international students who wish to study in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and other English-speaking countries. We specialize in helping international students accomplish their academic goals. Thousands of our TOEFL clients have been accepted to world-class institutions such as Oxford, Harvard, Cambridge, Yale, Princeton, the London School of Economics, MIT, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Edinburgh, Columbia, Dartmouth, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Toronto, McGill, the University of Melbourne, and Australian National University. Many of our past TOEFL students have been hired by Fortune 500 companies, including Dow Chemical, Archer Daniels Midland, State Farm Insurance, American Airlines Group, and Bank of America. We've also taught TOEFL prep to students who have eventually been hired by firms in Amsterdam, such as ING Group, EvoSwitch, Randstadt Holding, and Uniface.
